Cydonia “A” or “Eye” Mound / Cydonia Region / Mars

As well as the “Face”, D&M Pyramid, and the Cydonia City mounds there are also possible ruined arcologies all over Cydonia that are not covered in Richard C. Hoagland’s book “The Monuments of Mars”. (Arcologies are massive self contained habitations that can house substantial populations – a town or city contained in a single building). The following arcology ruin candidate was noticed in low resolution imagery from MRO’s context camera. The southern half of this mound is dominated by large subsidence hollows. This tendency towards implosion suggests the mound once contained much internal (and possibly) artificial space. In addition to these hollows there are also smaller features that are similar to eroding architectural structures. The last image in the poster compares this mound with the East Mound in Hoagland’s Cydonia City, with which it shares similarities. Hopefully, both mounds in the poster will be imaged by the MRO’s hi-resolution HiRISE camera. For an analysis of earlier MGS imagery of the East Mound click this "stargate" µµµ

As always with these outsized images the reader is advised to use the "View" then "Full Screen" options from the menu bar at the top of their browser screens to see more of the image clearly.

Alternatively, press the F11 key to enter the Full Screen mode, and then F11 again to return to the normal view.
