Collapsed Mounds / Cydonia Region / Mars

There are many examples in the Cydonia region of hills that show signs of a central collapse or implosion. This would be consistent with them being artificial arcologies that have subsided down into internal living space. The Image of the Day shows three examples of possible arcologies that have collapsed in this way. Blue circle: The Island Fort. In the collapsed state this is a long fort-like structure at one side of an "island" mesa. Red circle: The Collapsed Mesa. This may have started out as a natural mesa that was later converted into an arcology by tunnelling. Yellow circle: an un-named collapsed hill that seems to have had a large central implosion in the ancient past, suggesting that it is a much battered arcology.
